We began raising sheep in 2000, when Christi wanted to participate in the 4-H Lamb Project. I allowed her to purchase two lambs, a whether and a ewe. She was 10 years old at the time and I thought she might have an easier time selling one at the auction, if she had one to bring home with her.
We purchased our first ram, Sam, in 2002. We used Sam to breed to Molly and had him sold by the end of the year. Molly had a set of triplets, but we lost the ewe lamb.
We began 2003, with Molly and her two ram lambs. My parents helped to build our flock by giving us five ewes and six lambs. Trina, Christi, and Jim took five of the lambs to our 2003 County Fair.
The next season began with six ewes and three young rams. Christi and Jim took four of the lambs to our 2004 County Fair. In order to maintain a manageable flock, we sold some ewes and some lambs.
The 2005 season began with two ewes, one ewe lamb, and one ram. Only one ewe had a single lamb, so Christi needed to buy another lamb to take to our 2005 County Fair. We bought a ewe and added her to our flock for the following year.
The next season began with four ewes and one ram. Christi took two of the lambs to our 2006 County Fair. We sold one ewe and some lambs. We kept two ewe lambs and added them to our flock.
We began 2007 with three ewes, two ewe lambs, and one ram. Christi decided not to attend our 2007 County Fair since she was working and would have had to take the time off.
Our sheep have been relocated to an irrigated pasture in Brentwood. My father is caring for them and we will continue to breed for quality club lambs.
