Holland Lops

Welcome to Curryosity Farm located in Jackson, California.

I am now the owner of Hopp Inn Holland Lops, Registration No. W522. The name was registered by the American Rabbit Breeders Association, Inc., on June 2, 2004.

Hopp Inn Holland Lops is a small rabbitry that has 36 holes of cage space for Holland Lop rabbits. I will be working on short, massive, "quality" Holland Lops".

Holland Lop Varieties

  • Black Otter
  • Chestnut Agouti
  • Lynx
  • Orange
  • Seal
  • Siamese Sable
  • Smoke Pearl
  • Tortoise Shell

Christi began breeding rabbits in 2001, after joining the 4-H rabbit group at the age of 12. It all began with Mini Rex rabbits in 2001, and progressed with the purchase of a Holland Lop rabbit in 2002. She exhibited both Mini Rex and Holland Lops until she sold her last Mini Rex rabbit on October 16, 2004.

Schmidt's Phebe, Sheila, was purchased on April 6, 2002, as a Junior. Sheila became a Grand Champion on November 2, 2002, and was then retired from "show business". Christi didn't get a Holland Lop Buck until February 8, 2003, when she was given HH Rich.

The Tortoise Shell Project began on April 23, 2003, with one buck and one doe, Rich and Sheila. Pet quality rabbits were produced both times they were bred together, so Rich had to go. Rich was replaced with HH Tank on October 25, 2003. The first breeding of Sheila & Tank produced two bucks, Tank, Jr. & Corky. Tank Jr. was sold with 2 Jr. Legs when he was four months old. Corky had wry neck as a baby, made a full recovery, and was given away when he was four months old. We were pleased to hear that he won Best of Breed at her 2005 County Fair.

The Tortoise Shell Project is still going strong and when I took it over in May, 2010, I kept the best of the best and culled the rest. I kept four does and four bucks in this project and I look forward to watching how it progresses. I bred all four does in this project but only one of them has a litter in her nest box at the present time.

The Smoke Pearl Project was given to Christi by Meta Roddy on June 6, 2004. It began with three bucks and three does and when I took it over in May, 2010, I kept the best of the best and culled the rest. I kept four does and four bucks in this project and I look forward to watching how it progresses. When Christi decided she was going to give me her Holland Lops, she did not realize that I was going to continue with the project and bred one of the does to a Tortoise Shell buck. I bred the other three does to Smoke Pearl bucks, but the only one that had a litter was the one that was bred to the Tortoise Shell.

In August, 2004, Christi produced a Broken Smoke Pearl Jr. Doe named Hopp Inn Haze. She pulled her teeth on her cage and was sold to a 4-H girl when she was three months old. Haze turned out to be quite a show bunny and won several Legs including Best in Show.

The Otter Project began on October 5, 2005, with the purchase of one buck and one doe. This project continued on a small scale and was eventually given up. Since I still have the original buck that was purchased for this project, I have decided to get it going again. I kept two does that will work well for this project and I look forward to watching how it progresses. I bred both does in this project but neither one of them kindled this time.
