2004 Nubian Goat Archive

Updated 10/20/04

It appears Cameron wasn't bred on 9/23 as I thought. On 10/16, Sirus was trying to get in the doe area so I let him in. Our doe, Cameron, was bred to Sirus on 10/16, and is expecting kids on 3/15/05. I will still be watching for kids the week of 2/20/05, because Nora is expecting kids on 2/21/05.

Our doe, Cameron, was bred to Sirus on 9/23, and is expecting kids on 2/20/05.

We were going to breed Nora in December or January but our buck, Sirus, couldn't wait that long. I found him in the doe area on 9/24. Nora was bred on 9/24 and is expecting kids on 2/21/05.

Our doe kid, Ashelin, is doing really well. She is spoiled and all of the animals accept her. She goes in the horse pasture, sheep pasture, chicken area, outside the fence, hay storage area, to the house, wherever she wants. She sleeps between the two other does.

We sold three of the four kids. The first kid sold was a wether named Domino. The second kid sold was a buck named Sig. The third kid sold was a wether named Diego. I am keeping Ashelin to show as a dry yearling at the fair next year and I will breed her in the fall of 2005.

Nora had two kids on 6/26. They are both bucks and we named them Domino and Diego.

Cameron had two kids on 7/04. This was her third year kidding and the first year she had trouble. Cameron's first kid presented with only her head. My mom told me I had to go in and pull the legs out. When I went in to pull her legs out I felt the mouth and legs of the second kid, her brother was trying to be born the same time as she was. I pushed the second kids legs back in and tried to pull the right ones out. I found the wrong legs and had to push them back in again. I was very upset and scared that I was going to hurt or kill the kid. The next time I found the right legs and while Cameron was having contractions I slowly helped her get the kid out. The second kid was born about ten minutes later and they are both healthy. The first kid is a doe that we named Ashelin and the second kid is a buck that we named Sig.

I took Cameron, Nora, and the four kids Domino, Diego, Ashelin, & Sig to the Amador County Fair. I showed Cameron & Domino. Cameron took 1st in her class, Grand Champion, Best Udder, & Best in Show. Domino and Diego were shown in the wether class and took last and second to last because they were the smallest. Ashelin & Sig were born too late to be shown.

The fair offered an ADGA milking contest this year. I entered Cameron and Nora. I milked out over 5 lbs. per doe twice a day. They both produce 10 lbs./day. I have been measuring a gallon/day per doe. I am anxiously awaiting the quality test that was sent in to the ADGA.

I would like to publicly thank the sponsors of the Dairy Goat Show:

Thank you Ed & Laura Peters for sponsoring the Senior Champion.

Thank you Oak Gold Nubians for sponsoring the Best Udder Award.

Thank you Cal Am Goat Association for sponsoring Best Doe in Show.

I went to the Calaveras County Fair on 5/13 to see Maya and Mayla, two of the kids born to Cameron on 6/18/03. The goats turned out beautiful. They have very nice markings and were in perfect condition. They didn't have any competition at the fair but the judge said that they could be shown in any open show and do very well.

We are expecting kids on 6/21. Cameron had her kids two days early last year, and this is the first year that Nora was bred, so we are watching them carefully.

Cameron kidded on 6/18/03 and had triplets, two does and one buck. We took them to the fair and all three were sold before we left.

We purchased a Registered Buck, Hermione's Sirus, from Six M Galaxy Farms on 1/23.

Mom is now making Goat Milk Products from the fresh goat milk we get from our Doe, Cameron. She is selling Nubielle™ Hand & Body Lotion and Nubielle™ Goat Milk Soap. You can find her products at http://www.nubielle.com.
