2002 Nubian Goat Archive

Updated 6/30/02

I am a proud member of The American Dairy Goat Association.

My family started out with three Nubian Dairy goats. We have one Registered Doe, Cameron, and two wethers (castrated bucks), Stevie and Blake. Stevie was born on 5/4/00. Cameron and Blake were born on 5/5/00, they are brother and sister.

We bred Cameron on 12/17/01 and she gave birth to twins on 5/18. It was our first time kidding and everything was perfect. We watched her give birth to her first kid, Danny (buck), at 2:05 p.m. Danny weighed 6 lbs. 12 oz. She gave birth to her second kid, Nora (doe), at 2:12 p.m. Nora weighed 6 lbs. 4 oz. It was a very exciting event.

Cameron has been a good milk doe. When we open the gate, she walks into the barn and into her milk room. She is difficult to get on the milk stand, but once she is on the stand she doesn't move her feet. It usually takes two of us to get her on the stand. Initially, we had to pick up both her front feet and push her up. Now, we have to pick up her left foot, push her from behind and she will jump up. It is getting easier.

Nora, our kid doe, goes into the milk room, jumps into the stand and puts her head into the grain bowl to eat any grain that was left from her mom. We were unable to introduce the milk stand to our first goats because we didn't have the stand until they were older.

I am getting ready to attend our County Fair on 7/23. The Dairy Goats are being shown on 7/24. I will be showing Cameron and Nora. My brother will be showing Danny. I will post our results when we return.
