Nubian Dairy Goats

Welcome to Curryosity Farm, located in Jackson, California.

Our three children joined 4-H in 1999, and became involved in the Dairy Goat project. After attending many meetings, we purchased our first three goats on May 13, 2000. Since Trina was 15, Christi was 11, and Jim was 10, I decided to purchase one doe and two wethers for them so they could each have their own goat and we would only have to milk one in the future. The goat kids were 8 days old at the time of purchase so Trina, Christi, & Jim all had to bottle feed their own goat until they were weaned.

When it came time to register the doe, Cameron, Trina joined the American Dairy Goat Association and we needed to come up with a herd name. We decided to name our herd 4 R Kids, since we purchased the goats for our kids and we planned to have some goat kids in the future.

Since we did not have a Nubian Dairy buck we had to take Cameron to a registered Nubian Dairy goat farm to get her bred. Cameron produced two goat kids, a buck and doe, on May 18, 2002. Our herd was now up to five with the additions of Danny and Nora. The following year, we took Cameron to another registered Nubian Dairy goat farm to get her bred. On June 18, 2003, Cameron had a set of triplets, two does and a buck. We sold the triplets, Maya, Mayla, and Manny, since we would be breeding Cameron and Nora the following year.

After a couple of years Trina and Jim both lost interest in raising goats. Christi wanted to continue raising goats, so Trina transferred ownership to her.

We decided to purchase a Nubian buck instead of having to take Cameron and Nora to get them bred. Six M Galaxy Hermione's Sirus was a ten month old buck when we purchased him. He was very shy with the family, but on June 26, 2004, 154 days after he arrived, Nora had a pair of twin bucks. It was one week later, July 4, 2004, when Cameron produced a pair of twins, doe and buck. We sold Nora's buck kids, Domino and Diego, as wethers and Cameron's buck kid, Sig, as an unregistered buck. We ended up keeping Cameron's doe kid, Ashelin. The people that bought Sig ended up buying Danny as a companion for him. Within a month of selling Sig and Danny we sold Stevie and Blake as companion animals to a lonesome doe. At the end of 2004, we were down to four Nubian Dairy goats, three does and a buck.

Nora had twin does, Leila and Pantera, on 2/22/05. Cameron had triplet does, Jezebel, Darlene, and Adelaide on 3/18/05. We ended up selling Nora and Jezebel to some neighbor friends and Pantera to a young 4-H girl. At one of our 4-H Dairy goat meetings our leader was going to castrate her buck kid but Christi talked her out of it and we ended up buying Bob as an intact buck. At the end of 2005, we were up to seven Nubian Dairy goats, five does and two bucks.

Cameron had a set of triplet bucks on 6/16/06 with two surviving. The buck kids, Cisco and Buster were sold as wethers and are still together. Leila and Darlene were bred to our Boer buck and each had single Nubian/Boer cross goats. We decided to sell Bob since he was a half brother to all of our does. The people that were interested in Bob were also interested in Sirus so we ended up selling both of them. At the end of 2006, we were down to five Nubian Dairy goats, all does.

Leila was bred to our Boer buck and had a pair of twin does, Valentine & Valencia, on 2/14/07. Ashelin was bred to our Boer buck, and had a single buck, Billy, on 3/23/07. Darlene was bred to our Boer buck, and had a pair of twin does on 6/07/07. Cameron was bred to our Boer buck and had a single buck on 7/11/07.

Due to Christi's busy work and school schedule, we are in the process of selling all of our Nubian Dairy goats. If you are interested in any of our Nubian or Boer goats, please proceed to the Classified Ads.
