Welcome to Curryosity Farm, located in Jackson, California.
We began our Boer goat herd with four does on May 7, 2005, when our 4-H Meat Goat leader decided to sell all of her goats. We bought Nena, a 100% registered Boer doe and her twin does, Violet and Petunia. Sunny, a recently weaned doe was also purchased that day.
About three months later, August 21, 2005, we purchased four more Boer goats, a buck, Lazarus, and three more does, Sissy, Bethany, and Jackie Brown. We were now ready to start the breeding of our Boer goat herd.
We began 2006 with eight Boer goats, one buck and seven does. Nena was the first to kid on 1/23/06, and had a single buck that Christi named Lord Hawksmoore. On 2/26/06, we saw an ad for a three day old Boer bottle buck so we bought Nox. Our Nubian goat Ashelin, produced a Nubian/Boer doe kid, Divinity, on 3/07/06. Sissy was the next to kid on 3/12/06, and had a buck, Meat, and a doe, Robin. Jackie added her addition to the herd on 3/22/06, with a single doe, Peppy. Our Nubian goat, Darlene, had a Nubian/Boer buck kid, El Toro, on 6/18/06. Bethany followed one day later, 6/19/06, with a single doe, Emma.
In order to keep our herd to a reasonable size, we decided to keep the best and sell the rest. We sold Violet, Petunia, and Sunny because they were exposed to Lazarus and did not get bred. Sissy, Robin, and Bethany were sold because they were not as nice as the ones we kept. Nox was sold when we discovered he had parrot mouth. Meat and El Toro were sold since they were boys. At the end of 2006, we were down to seven Boer goats, two bucks and five does.
On Valentine's Day, 2/14/06, our day began with a set of triplets. Nena had triplets, two bucks and a doe, with one surviving buck, Cupid. Leila, our Nubian goat, had her kids the same afternoon and had twin does, Valentine and Valencia. We moved the does and their kids from the rest of the herd and placed them in their own individual goat nursery.
Our goat nurseries consist of four 4'W x 4'L x 8'H houses with 4'W x 8'L x 8'H pens. After a couple of days the doors of their pens are left open during the day and they are allowed access to a larger fenced area that is used as a kid playground. On the "playground" is a solid wood chicken nest box that the kids use to jump on and off. The nest box is divided into three nest areas, about 15"W x 15"H x 15"L, that the kids also use to curl up and sleep in. There is a small spool but they are usually too small to jump that high. We allow the goats and their kids to rejoin the herd when the kids are a couple of weeks old.
On 3/23/07, we had another two does decide to kid on the same day. Jackie was the first to kid and had her twins, Max and Melanie, a buck and doe. Our Nubian goat, Ashelin, was bred to Lazarus and had a single buck, Billy, mid-afternoon. The does and kids were removed from the herd and placed in their own goat nursery.
On 4/07/07, two more does decided to kid on the same day. Divinity, our Nubian/Boer cross, had a pair of twins, a buck and doe, Wedge and Divot, in the morning. Peppy had a single doe, Slice, the same afternoon. The does and kids were removed from the herd and placed in their own goat nursery.
Emma was due to kid on 6/16 and miscarried a pair of kids on 5/17/07.
Cameron had a single buck on 7/11/07.
Due to Christi's busy work and school schedule, we are in the process of selling all of our Boer goats. If you are interested in any of our Nubian or Boer goats, please proceed to the Classified Ads.
