Welcome to Curryosity Farm, located in Jackson, California.
When operating a farm there are always things to do around the place to stay busy. We have built fences, permanent shelters, quonset hut shelters, and a small horse barn.
We have a small 23'W x 12'D, cement floor barn. It is separated into three areas with two doors that can be entered through the front, one on the left and one on the right. When entering either of the doors, there is a 4'D walkway that leads to the three areas. The right area, 7'W x 8'D, is used as a Tack Room. The middle area, 8'W x 8'D, is used as a storage area for our goat stand. The left area, 8'W x 8'D, is used to store our rabbit show accessories which include carry cages, grooming stand, etc. We store all of our animal supplies on shelves that are located to the right and left of the doors.
Behind the 23'W x 12'D cement floor barn is a 15'W x 22'D shaded area that is fenced with chicken wire. We relocated the rabbits to this area by converting most of our stacking cages into hanging cages. This area contains 47 hanging cages, grooming/storage cabinet, and a metal garbage can of rabbit food. It is presently covered with a tarp.
We built a 24'W x 4'D x 8'H, plywood chicken house. It is separated into four 4'W x 4'D, and one 8'W x 4'D houses, complete with doors. We added 8' of chicken wire per house and created five chicken pens. After awhile, we allowed the chickens to free range. We have used the houses for storage, chicken brooders, and goat nurseries. The 8"W x 4"D house, is currently in need of cleaning as well as two of the other four houses. We have two houses that are being used for storage and expect to clean and organize all of them before winter begins.
We had an 8'W x 8'W, dirt floor barn built for the goats. We denied the goats access, when we found it very difficult to keep clean. The barn was then used for hay storage, until we discovered how difficult it was to fight the goats at feeding time. It is now used as a storage area.
We added more chicken pens to the back of the 24'W x 4"D x 8"H, plywood chicken house. We added 8' of chicken wire, and added a roof to create eight, 3'W x 8'D, chicken pens. After awhile, we allowed the chickens to free range. We removed the inside pens, covered the chicken wire with shade cloth, and converted them into one 24'W x 8'D rabbit barn until they were relocated to the shaded area. All of our remaining chickens, one rooster, one hen, and twelve of her chicks, are now penned in half of that area.
Our rabbits and chickens are fed once a day, and the horses are fed twice a day, rain or shine. We are now feeding the horses stable mix and it is being purchased in barrels which can be stored outside. Our hay storage is now located in a shed since we no longer have the same quantity requirements.
